Hyundai has applied for patenting the Grand i10 in China, indicating that there are plans to launch the hatchback in the world’s fastest growing car market.

The Grand i10 could be launched in the Chinese market soon.

For China, Hyundai is most likely to launch the Indian specification of the Grand i10 which gets an extended wheelbase and extra rear legroom as a result. The European version (which is simply called 2014 i10) gets a shorter wheelbase and can be easily identified at the front thanks to LED daytime running lights.

While the Grand i10 seen in these images looks exactly like the Indian car, the lack of roof rails for the Chinese model seems quite obvious. The interiors of the Chinese version are expected to look similar to the Indian model apart from the location of the steering wheel (China gets LHD).

For the Chinese market, Hyundai will not launch a diesel model, restricting the engine option to the 1.2-liter four-cylinder petrol which produces 83 PS of power and 11.6 kgm of torque in the Indian model. The petrol is available with a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic gearbox.

In China, the Grand i10 will have its chief rival in the Suzuki Swift. We expect Hyundai China to make an announcement regarding the Grand i10 at the Beijing Motor Show next month.
