The BMW 1 Series may be less than a year old in India (the 1 Series was launched in India in September last year), however, the hatchback is about two and a half years old in its home market in Germany. Given BMWs product lifecycle, the 1 Series is scheduled to receive a facelift very soon.

This rendering envisions the 2 Series’ front fascia on the 1 Series and certainly looks a lot better than the current car. The ‘gawking’ headlights are replaced with sharper looking ones, while keeping intact BMWs trademark kidney grille and the overall profile of the hatchback.

BMWs mid-life facelifts (LCI or Life Cycle Impulse) are generally very subtle, with typical examples being the 7 Series facelift, 5 Series facelift, X1 facelift and Z4 facelift (all these cars were launched in India last year). There are generally no mechanical upgrades, and hence we expect the 1-er facelift to continue with its petrol and diesel engines.

The petrol engine is a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 136 bhp and 220 Nm of torque, while the diesel is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 143 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. Both variants come standard with an 8-speed automatic transmission sending the drive to the rear wheels.

The 1 Series was launched in India with prices ranging from INR 20.9 lakhs to INR 29.9 lakhs ex-Showroom.
