We are hardly an hour away from the official unveil of the Tata Zest (codenamed Tata Falcon 5), and here's the first spyshot of the compact saloon that reveals the rear fascia design.

Tata's second compact saloon is based on the Manza platform (X1 platform), but the body panels, dashboard and petrol engine are a complete rethink. The sub-4m long sedan is biggest launch coming from Indian company's one-year old 'Horizonext' plan. It would compete against the Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze and the Hyundai Grand i10 sedan which would be unveiled tomorrow.

Tata Zest or Tata Falcon 5 spyshot rear
The rear lens cuts into the fender, like in the Honda Amaze. Door handles, mirrors and wheels are also different.

Observing the spyshot, the Tata Zest features a cohesive boot and look wise, it appears better than the Maruti Dzire with a well-rounded design. Notably, the alloy wheel design and sharper wraparound taillamps are quite different from current designs.

Under the hood, expect Tata to use the 1.2L Revotron turbo-petrol engine that delivers 85 PS @ 5,000 RPM and 140 Nm between 1,750 – 3,500 RPM. Expect Tata to use the same 1.3L Fiat MultiJet engine that can churn out 90 bhp, and likewise the same 5-speed gearbox from the current vehicle.
