Tata will be unveiling a compact crossover concept at the Auto Expo this week. Earlier dubbed as 'Tata Jump', Indian Autos Blog learns through its sources that the concept has been renamed 'Tata Nexon'.

Tata Motors has been absent in the compact crossover space and the company aims to correct this with the Nexon. Sources in the know have informed us that the concept would enter production sometime in 2015.

The Nexon SUV will be based on the Vista's X1 platform.

The concept-to-production time for the Nexon will be relatively short as it will use the Vista's tried-and-tested X1 platform. Keeping Indian small car regulations in mind, the Nexon will measure under four meters in length. When launched, it will target the Ford EcoSport.

The Nexon will make use of Tata's newly announced Revotron engine. This turbocharged 1.2-liter motor could be tuned to produce about 100 bhp in the Nexon. Using this Revotron engine, two new Tata cars will be announced today - the Falcon 4 hatchback and the Falcon 5 compact sedan (reportedly named 'Bolt' and 'Zest').

This edition of the Auto Expo will see many SUV/crossover concepts being unveiled. Chevrolet's Adra concept is reported to measure under four meters in length, while Honda's Vision XS-1 concept could be based on the Brio's platform.
