Jaguar will not be showing a concept previewing its new entry-level sedan. Instead, our first glimpse of this BMW 3 Series rival will be the actual production version itself.
Speaking to Auto Express at the UK launch of the F-Type Coupe, Jaguar’s design head, Ian Callum, said that the sedan would be shown this year, ahead of its market launch in 2015. Its highly likely for Jaguar to reveal the car, speculatively called XS, at the Paris Motor Show in October this year.
Callum says that the XS will not be a shrunken version of Jaguar’s current entry sedan, the XF. However, it will sport similarities to the XF and will carry the family face.
The XS will be based on Jaguar’s brand new iQ aluminium platform. This platform was previewed through the C-X17 crossover concept, which happened to make its Indian debut recently at the Auto Expo 2014.
Power for the XS sedan will come from newly-developed four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. These engines will be positioned at both ends of the performance spectrum (according to reports, the range will include frugal versions and 300 km/h performance versions).
These new engines will be built at JLR’s new Wolverhampton plant, which at full capacity can produce an engine every 36 seconds.
