Sales of two-wheelers continue to do good in an otherwise depressing show by the Indian automobile industry in December 2013.

With sales of commercial vehicles continuing on its downward trend for the 14th month on the trot, even the passenger car segment hasn't fared too well. The next few months aren't going get any better if the word of industry body SIAM is to be believed. SIAM says the situation would turnaround only when a new government comes into power later this year.

Hero Motocorp's erstwhile partners, Honda, have done exceedingly well by registering a 36 percent increase in sales for December 2013. India Yamaha Motors also registered an increase of 58 percent in sales. Even TVS Motors recorded a modest 2 percent hike in sales for December 2013 as against the same period last year.

Mahindra two wheelers' purple patch with the Centuro is still on, with the company recording a 267 percent growth in sales, mainly driven by a low base in December 2012.

With the 2014 Auto Expo lined up in less than a month, a range of new models and concepts are expected from both car as well as two-wheeler manufacturers.
