Autocar UK reports that BMW will debut a refreshed X3 and the production version of the X4 crossover at the New York Auto Show in April this year.
Since the launch of the second generation X3 in 2010, the crossover has continued without any mechanical or design changes. On the updated model though, designers have included LED daytime running lights, a revised bumper with a restyled air intake and new alloy wheel design options. As Autocar puts it, expect the X3 facelift to sport updates similar to the 5 Series facelift which went on sale last year.
In India, BMW sells the X3 with two diesel engine options - a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and a 3.0-liter straight six motor. While the 2.0-liter engine produces 184 hp, the 3.0-liter outputs 258 hp. Both engines feature an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard. We expect this mechanical package to be retained when the X3 goes under the knife.
The New York Auto Show will also play host to the global unveiling of the production X4 crossover. Based on the X3's platform, a concept was shown earlier last year at the Auto Shanghai.
Both, the updated X3 and X4, will be made at BMW's facility in Spartanburg, USA. However, BMW India's plant in Chennai assembles the X3 from CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kits and this is expected to continue with the facelifted model as well.
