In order to maintain its lead over the market in the UV segment, Mahindra is currently developing new platforms for its future product offerings.

According to Dr. Pawan Goenka, Executive Director - Automotive & Farm equipment, engineers and designers at the Mahindra Research Valley are working on four new platforms which will underpin utility vehicles (UVs), sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and small & light commercial vehicles (LCVs).

The platforms are expected to be ready by 2015 while the products based on them could hit the showrooms from 2016. Dr. Goenka says that the new platforms would enable them to secure their leadership in the UV segment and also allow them to offer good products in the sub-segment of the company’s existing lineups.

He further added that every time a new product is launched it was observed that there was a need to have more products no matter what sub-segments they would fall in.

Based on what we know, Mahindra is planning to launch a compact SUV on the lines of the successful XUV500 (known until now as the Mahindra S101). This could be another ground breaking product from the company, rivaling the Ford EcoSport. Apart from that, the Scorpio is slated to receive a facelift with improved interiors next year.

The company is also working on a new LCV which will target the range of products of Tata Motors by 2016.

It is believed that these new platforms would serve as the foundation for the next generation Scorpio, Bolero and Xylo expected after 2016.
