Mahindra Two Wheelers has been granted patents for four of its technologies that it had developed in house for the Centuro bike.

The fuel gauge system, automatic ignition cut-off, distance to empty fuel system and the engine immobilizer system (which is yet to be introduced) have been rewarded patents, the company said in a press release today.

The Centuro has seen healthy sales numbers over the last 6 months, selling 65,538 units.

The Centuro was launched in July this year after close to two years of development at the company's R&D facility in Pune. The bike carries the company's all-new micro chip ignited-5 curve (MCi-5) engine that develops 8 bhp and a peak torque of 8.5 Nm. The company also incorporated other technologies and features into the bike, namely an anti-theft alarm with engine immobilizer, remote flip key, find me lamps and guide lamps. It also carried a distance-to-empty indicator, service reminder and economy mode indicator in a fully digital dashboard.

All this, coupled with the company's close to 1,000 touchpoints across the country has helped sales zoom. The Centuro has sold 65,638 units between April and October 2013. The 110 cc bike sees, at present, a waiting period of four months.

The company recently announced that it will double output to 1,200 units per day from its manufacturing facility in Chinchwad near Pune to reduce waiting periods.
