Back in April this year, Honda took the title of India’s Most Fuel Efficient Car with the Amaze diesel which clocked 25.8 km/l.

This prestigious title has now been conferred to the all-new Honda City diesel, which has an ARAI rated claim of 26 km/l!

Powered by the same 1.5-liter i-DTEC EarthDreams diesel engine as the Amaze, the City diesel’s power and torque outputs are also identical at 100 PS and 200 Nm. However, where the Amaze gets a 5-speed manual gearbox, the City gets a 6-speed unit.

The power and torque values of the 1.5L diesel engine on the City are the same as the Amaze.

Indian Autos Blog drove the new City diesel earlier this month but thanks to an embargo, we weren't allowed to speak about it. We're happy to report that even in (Jaipur) city driving conditions with a half-heavy throttle, the City diesel was averaging 17.8 km/l.

On the top-end VX model, the City will come equipped with an engine starter button, sunroof, alloy wheels, touch-screen controlled automatic climate control system, a music system with USB, iPod, Bluetooth and Aux-in, rear AC vents, dual front airbags, ABS and EBD.

The new City will go on sale in January next year. Honda will disclose the number of variants, variant-wise features and the prices at the time of the launch.

Coming up next is a detailed technical look at the new City diesel and petrol and the review of the City diesel and petrol (both the manual and CVT variant). Stay tuned to Indian Autos Blog!
