CarToq.com has rendered the Mahindra Scorpio facelift that's due in 2014. Sitting at the top of its segment for 11 years now, the Scorpio is one of Mahindra's cash cows, and has built up the utility vehicle maker's reputation of offering desirable vehicles in the lifestyle SUV segment. It also paved the way for the XUV500's conception and success.

As the second generation Scorpio is still 2-3 years away, Mahindra has to keep the existing model up to date in features, styling and technology, ready to face a flood of competitors, both foreign and domestic.

CarToq is reporting that the new Scorpio gets a fully updated front-end complete with new headlamps, grille, bumper and hood. The website is claiming that the new model would be introduced at the Auto Expo.

The report also furnishes some information on the interiors and engines. The interior is reportedly receiving better fit and finish to go with the new exterior design. The vehicle could also receive the same steering wheel as the XUV500, while features developed for the bigger SUV could also cascade on to the Scorpio.

The powertrains could continue without any changes. The 2.2-liter mHawk turbo diesel engine that outputs 120 bhp/290 Nm is likely to motivate the top-end variants, while the 2.6-liter and the 2.5-liter M2DiCR turbo diesel motors could also be retained on the low-end variants.

The same applies to the 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox, and the 4WD option. Most Scorpio facelift variants would slot just under the cut-price XUV500 W4 variant, but do expect some price appreciation.
