The next generation Maruti Suzuki A-Star (2015 Suzuki Alto) continues testing in India and more spyshots of the small hatchback surface today. The images are courtesy of Motorbash reader Ankur Chauhan who spotted the car in Gurgaon.

As seen from the images, the 2015 A-Star appears to have a wider body. The rear fascia incorporates different tail lamps, and the stance is quite upright, with a tallboy profile, a huge departure from the bean-shape design. The country’s largest carmaker is presently working on a set of diesel engines ranging in displacements from 800cc to 1600cc and reports indicate that the upcoming A-Star would be the first passenger vehicle to house the 800cc diesel mill.

Revamped completely, the new A-Star adopts a tall-boy design. That way, it could also appeal to the Estilo's target customer.

The Maruti Suzuki Estilo was discontinued this year and the next generation A-Star will have to play a dual replacement role. While sales of the A-Star and the Estilo were down to three digits on many months this year, we believe that Maruti could club the pluses of both models into the 2015 A-Star, targeting customers who are looking for a compact, spacious and inexpensive diesel Maruti.

Codenamed ‘YL7’, we are hoping to see the car launch at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo next year, 6 years after its predecessor debuted on the same stage in a concept avatar.
