Maruti continues to test out the next generation A-Star (2015 Suzuki Alto) and here is another set of spyshots from Indian Autos Blog reader, 'Mr.RB'.

Next generation Maruti A-Star
The next generation A-Star has been testing extensively in India and Europe.

Non-stop testing on Delhi roads has taken a toll on this prototype as the taillight lens has developed a crack! As we have detailed in the past, the new A-Star ditches its bean-shaped design for a more upright stance and the design of the rear-fascia and doors remind us of JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) small cars such as the Alto.

Codenamed 'YL7', the next generation Maruti A-Star is expected to grow in size and offer more rear seat space and comfort than the current car. Maruti could also position the new A-Star in such a way that it fills the void left behind by the Estilo.

The overall design of the new A-Star gives us the impression that a roomier cabin lies in store.

The new A-Star could source its power from the same three-cylinder, 1.0-liter, K-Series engine producing 68 PS and 90 Nm of torque. A small-displacement, 0.8-liter, two-cylinder diesel engine, which Maruti is working on currently, could also be introduced in due time.

Maruti's new 0.8-liter diesel engine is a possible power-plant for the new A-Star.

Meanwhile, the A-Star which is badge-engineered as the Nissan Pixo and sold in the UK was discontinued last week. However, the Suzuki Alto continues to be sale in that country, albeit with a 700 pound (INR 69,000) discount. In India, A-Star sales continue to be below average with the number falling to 399 units in September 2013.
