The Fiat Linea Classic was launched moments ago in New Delhi. For readers who are tuning in now, the Linea Classic is essentially the low-cost variant of the Linea that will now cater to the C-Lower segment.

From an exterior standpoint, the Classic is identical to the regular Linea, apart from a subtle 'Classic' badging it receives on its boot lid. Features usually found 0n the higher variant such as alloy wheels, foglights, chrome inserts in the grille and door handles, are not seen on the Classic variant.

The news does not get any better on the inside where a lot of equipment has been skipped. To start with, the beige livery is replaced by an-black theme, usually found in the lower Punto hatchback. Features such as automatic climate control, steering mounted audio controls, Blue & Me, driver airbag, front armrest, and electrically controlled wing mirrors have been left out.

Mechanically, the Classic features a detuned 1.3-liter MultiJet diesel engine producing 75bhp (same as the Punto) while the petrol with its 1.4-liter motor produces an unaltered 88bhp.

So how does Fiat India plan on marketing the Classic? As soon as we entered the launch arena, we saw their marketing strategy firsthand. A display car stood next to a scale and a board reading "Longest Car In The Price Segment".

Do note that the following prices are ex-Showroom, New Delhi.

  • Fiat Linea Classic 1.4-liter Petrol - INR 5.99 lakhs
  • Fiat Linea Classic 1.3-liter Diesel - INR 6.95 lakhs
  • Fiat Linea Classic Plus 1.3-liter Diesel - INR 7.50 lakhs
