Audi AG has signed an agreement with the Brazilian government to invest 150 million Euros (1253.9 crore rupees) on a production plant in São José dos Pinhais, Brazil.
Prof. Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi AG –
By producing in Brazil, we will create the basis for further growth in the region. Also in Brazil, our goal is to lead the premium segment. Audi’s second plant in Latin America has also been confirmed in Mexico and that will start operations in 2016.
Another Audi official said that “a lot of components” will be sourced from Brazilian suppliers for the A3 sedan. The A3 sedan, which world premiered in Shanghai this year and is heading to India in 2014, would be the first vehicle to roll of the plant, followed by the Q3 within the next few months.
The Brazilian plant and Audi’s second plant in Foshan, China, are in line with Audi’s goals of delivering two million vehicles worldwide per year by 2020. Stadler said that with the Brazilian production plant, Audi is ideally placed in the BRIC markets.
