Report - 2013 Skoda Octavia begins arriving at dealerships

The 2013 Skoda Octavia is due to be launched in India on October 3rd and the initial few cars have already begun arriving in various dealerships. Unveiled in India on August 9th by Skoda CEO, Prof. Dr. h.c Winfried Vahland, the new Octavia will replace the second generation model which we have come to know as the Laura.

Skoda's Aurangabad facility has already commenced production of the new Octavia. For India, Skoda will offer the new Octavia with three engine options - two petrol and one diesel. Starting the range is the 1.4-liter TSI motor that is also found in the VW Jetta TSI. With 140PS and 250Nm of torque, this engine has an ARAI claimed efficiency of 16.8km/l.

It will be available only on the base and mid-spec Active and Ambition grades with a 6-speed manual gearbox. A top-end Elegance grade in a petrol guise will be offered, but only with the 1.8-liter TSI engine. Skoda has retuned this engine and it now produces 180PS from the earlier 160PS. This engine comes only with the 7-speed DSG automatic transmission.

Finally, the volume seller of the range would be the 2.0-liter four-cylinder CR diesel engine. Producing 143PS and 320Nm of torque, Skoda India will offer this engine with both, manual and automatic transmissions. While the 6-speed manual comes in Active and Ambition grades, the 6-speed DSG will be available in Ambition and Elegance trims.
