The Tata Xenon Tuff Truck Concept is a brawny off roader with an Australian flavor. This pickup truck concept has been unveiled at the ongoing National 4x4 and Outdoor Show at Melbourne as part of Tata's brand building exercise in Australia, just prior to the brand's market launch.

A host of accessories and its paint job justify the name of the car.

One glance is more than enough to be convinced that the concept does justice to its name. The Tuff Truck concept was designed and built in association with Tata's Australian distributor, Fusion Automotive, with the design team headed by Julian Quincey, chief designer, Walkinshaw Automotive (Fusion Automotive is a unit of Walkinshaw Group). Quincey is the lead designer of the HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) and has some mouthwatering designs to his credit.

Painted in a satin finished Arden Grey, the double-cab pickup wears an exclusively designed body kit and accessories pack which includes snorkel, sports bar, spot lights, DRLs and a new front bumper complete with a winch and an alloy skid plate. The 20" alloy wheels are machined from solid billets of aluminium and come shod with fatter off-road tires compared to the regular car.

In spite of its beefed up external appearance, there are no changes under the hood. The 2.2 liter DICOR diesel engine pumps out 148bhp (the Indian version generates 137.2 bhp) and comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox which transfers power via a shift-on-the-fly 4x4 system.

Tata might go for a limited production run of the concept.

Tata officials are reported to be so impressed by the Xenon Tuff Truck Concept that they may consider a low volume production run in partnership with Fusion Automotive.
