BMW has announced the BMW Concept X5 eDrive for the Frankfurt Motor Show. While BMW is still calling it a 'concept', it seems to be production ready based on what we understand from the press release.

Power for X5 eDrive comes from a four-cylinder petrol engine with a BMW TwinPower turbocharger. This engine is coupled with a 95bhp electric motor which gets its energy from a lithium-ion battery pack that is mounted in a "crash-safe" position underneath the boot floor. Boot space has however not been compromised.

0-100km/h takes 7 seconds while the top-speed without any assist from the petrol engine is rated at 120km/h. It can also travel for a range of 30km on pure electricity alone while the overall hybrid fuel economy is rated at 3.8L/100km (26.31km/l). The CO2 emissions are less than 90g/km.

Exterior wise, you can recognize the eDrive thanks to its BMW i Blue-colored kidney grille, air intake, and the inlay in the rear bumper. Specially designed roof rails and aerodynamically optimized 21-inch alloy wheels are other design highlights that sets this eDrive apart from the normal X5.

The 2014 BMW X5, on which this eDrive concept is based, entered production very recently at the BMW facility in Spartanburg, USA. Global deliveries of the SUV has not commenced yet.
