The BMW 1 Series will be launching in India on September 3. Prior to that, the German luxury car maker has released this video of what to expect from their small hatchback. The 1 Series is BMW's answer to the Mercedes A Class. Where Mercedes India imports the A Class, BMW India will be locally assembling the 1 Series and hence we expect the pricing to be as competitive. Sources have told us that it would be in the range of INR 22-24 lakhs.

The 1 Series is already available for pre-booking and the first 100 customers get the BMW Service Inclusive Plus (a comprehensive maintenance package) as a complimentary feature. There will be two engines powering the 1 Series in India.

The petrol engine would be a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 136bhp and 220Nm of torque. An 8-speed automatic transmission will send the power to the rear wheels. Designated as 116i, it has an ARAI certified 16.28km/l. The diesel engine in question is the 2.0-liter unit which also does duty in the X1 and the 3 Series. For the 1 Series though, it would be detuned to produce 143bhp and 320Nm of torque. The 118d as it would be called would have an ARAI certified 20.58km/l.
