What are the 2 most frequently asked questions Indian Autos Blog received till date? One was the price of the Ford EcoSport (which was finally answered) and two was when would the Maruti Suzuki Swift Sport come to India?

When the Swift moved to its next generation model a couple of years ago, the Swift Sport that followed came only with 3-doors. As a result, we couldn't even put forth the question to the Maruti officials. Now though, the Swift Sport is available with 5-doors!

Power for the 5-door Swift Sport comes from the same 1.6-liter VVT engine producing 136PS of power. Peak torque is 160Nm at 4,400rpm. A bespoke exhaust system with twin tailpipes on each side of the rear diffuser is also featured.

A 6-speed manual transmission sends the power to the front wheels. The performance figures for the Swift Sport 5-door has not been released yet, though it should be similar to the 3-door (0-100km/h in 8.7 seconds and a top speed of 193km/h).

The fuel efficiency is rated at 44.1mpg (15.6 km/l) while emitting only 147g/km of CO2.

The Swift Sport is generously equipped. Standard equipment includes auto AC, front fog lamps, push button start, cruise control, Bluetooth and HID Projector headlamps with headlamp washers!

For the 2013 MY, the Sport comes with an additional color choice called 'Boost Blue Metallic', high mounted LED brake light at the rear and driver side Auto Up function for the window.

Four colors are available to choose from: Silky silver metallic, Cool White Pearl Metallic, Boost Blue Pearl metallic and Cosmic Black Pearl Metallic.

Prices for the 5-door Swift Sport are only 500 pounds (INR 45,216) more than the 3 door version. The 5-door version costs 14,249 pounds (INR 12.88 lakhs).

Suzuki says that the Swift Sport accounts for 10% of the Swift sales in the UK. Out of the 1,200 Swift Sports which will be sold in the UK every year, 450 would be the 5-door version.

Given that VW is able to sell about 300 units a month of the GT TSI (at least in the initial months they are able to sustain that volume), we think Maruti would find it child's play to push at least 500-odd Swift Sports in India. Would you agree?
