The Nissan Terrano has started its rigorous testing regime in and around Chennai where the car would be made.

The re-badged cousin of the Renault Duster seems to have a serious intention of hitting the market during the festive season. This is a production spec rendering of the Terrano's rear, made by our expert image manipulator Shoeb. The rendering is based on the sketch that Nissan had released a week ago.

Compared to the re-badging exercises of the Nissan Sunny (Renault Scala) and the Nissan Micra (Renault Pulse), the Terrano seems like a more comprehensively designed product.

The compact SUV sports some noticeable sheet metal changes on the bonnet, door panels and the tailgate to differentiate itself sufficiently from the Duster. As you can see from the rendering, the Terrano sports a completely different set of taillights which extend into the tailgate.

There are changes in the interior as well. While the Duster has circular aircon vents, our previous spyshots of the Terrano indicates that it would have rectangular vents akin to the Sunny and the new Micra.

The Terrano will adopt the same 1.5 litre K9k diesel engine from the Duster but it remains to be seen whether it would be offered in two states of tune (85PS and 110PS). The Terrano would be more expensive than the Duster by around Rs. 50,000, but Nissan plans to compensate the high pricing with better looks and a premium interior.
