Honda Cars India today confirmed to Indian Autos Blog that it is exclusively handling supply of the Amaze to the South African market. The Amaze was launched in South Africa on the 17th of July in three variants and two gearbox options.

A Honda Cars India official said a few hundred cars were shipped to South Africa without any noteworthy changes compared to the India-spec car. The official added that there were no plans to ship out diesel variants.

The sole difference appears to be in the name, which is 'Brio Sedan' in South Africa. The 'Amaze' branding has been dropped possibly as South Africans prefer to have their vehicles without a prefix or suffix. The Vento for instance to them is the Polo sedan, while the Etios Liva, is simply Etios.

The Honda Brio Sedan comes in three variants -

  • 1.2 i-VTEC Trend Manual R128,900 (7.83 lakh rupees)
  • 1.2 i-VTEC Comfort Manual R136,900 (8.32 lakh rupees)
  • 1.2 i-VTEC Comfort Automatic R146,900 (8.92 lakh rupees)

The 1.2L engine outputs 87 bhp and 109 Nm. The 1.2L manual variant's average fuel efficiency is rated at 16.39kpl in the South African driving cycle. A three-year/100,000 km warranty is standard, while the service interval is 15,000km. ABS and EBD are standard safety features.

Much like here in India, the Honda Brio sedan is targeted at the young South African family. For Honda, it brings another product from their range within the reach of a wider audience.
