The Taigun is VW's answer to the mini SUV segment which is proving to be the popcorn of the automotive industry in places like India and South America. The world debut of the Taigun took place at the Sao Paulo Motor Show in October last year.

A significant advantage VW has with the Taigun is that they need not re-engineer the car to meet the Indian small car regulations. The Taigun (in concept form) measures only 3,859mm bumper-to-bumper classifying it as a small car.

The Up!-based Taigun concept features a 1.0-liter TSI engine (since it is smaller than 1.2-liters in displacement, small car regulations continue to apply) producing 110 PS of power and 175 Nm of torque.

Thanks to the light kerb weight of 985 kg, the Taigun can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 9.2 seconds and reach a 186 km/h top speed. The Taigun does all this whilst still delivering 22.2 km/l.

As you can see from these images, the cabin follows a minimalist approach, drawing a lot of inspiration from the VW Up! The body colored dashboard and door trims endows the cabin with a fresh feeling in spite of being cost conservative.

The boot is comparatively small at only 280 liters.

When it enters production sometime in 2016, the Taigun will compete with the likes of the Ford EcoSport, Peugeot 2008, Renault Duster and the Nissan Terrano.
