The Chennai plant is the third of the five plans where the EcoSport would be made. The car is currently made in Camacari, Brazil and Chongqing, China (Changan Ford JV) while production will commence in Rayong, Thailand and Tatarstan, Russia (Ford Sollers JV) in the future.

Ford president and Chief Executive Officer Alan Mulally said –

The EcoSport looks fantastic. The Chennai team, together with our supplier partners, have done an outstanding job in delivering our customers a great looking, fuel efficient, safe, compact utility vehicle with impressive functionality and connectivity, at a very affordable price.

Dave Schoch, president of Ford Asia Pacific said –

The EcoSport is a great example of Ford’s leadership in the global shift to fuel-efficient and functional utility vehicles. Utilities are helping drive our expansion throughout the region, particularly in emerging markets, where growth in the utility segments is exploding.

Last week we learned from Ford dealers that the booking amount was 50,000 rupees and each dealer was allocated 250 EcoSports a month. On booking the car, the customer would get a unique allocation number from the company to help him track the status of the delivery.

For Petrol 1.5Liter version if price is more than 8.5 on Road then would go for Duster or Verna.
It would be waste waiting for 10 months and a waste of 3K which I would loose on cancelling my booking

Guys, just went to enquire about an EcoSport and got to know that its launching next week for sure BUT was disappointed to know that the diesel version would cost between 12-13 lakhs on-road. Lets see if this stands true or not.

  3. Shyam says:

No idea still when Ecosport will be coming here. Nevermind though. I dont think it will be better than Duster. Duster has a better diesel engine and is the more spacious car of the 2.

  4. Jai says:

In Bangalore On road price of Eco would be in the range of 7.5 -12 lakhs.

Agreesive pricing like Honda amaze then see result ford

  6. Ayyappan says:

I think the most crucial element now would be the Pricing. Ford might be tempted to overprice Ecosport considering the pre release hype. Again, this could be suicidal because a) Being a 4 seater with very limited boot space, its not a very practical car and family buyers might stay away from it in the long run b) The upcoming compact SUV’s from Nissan, Maruti, Hyundai, Honda, Toyota and Mahindra would be priced extremely aggressively unlike the Duster. So, once the initial hype fizzle out, it would be difficult for Ford to maintain the tempo.

Ford should do what Honda did with the Amaze. Nobody expected Honda to release a Diesel sub 4 metre sedan at 6 lacs ex show room and that too, with a 100 bhp engine, 25.8 kmpl mileage, massive cabin space for 5 adults, 400 litre boot space, AC, Power steering, all door power windows and even ABS with EBD as a standard. They’ve set a very aggressive benchmark for others, I guess.

Cmon Ford, launch Ecosport at 5.45 lacs ex showroom as it was reported earlier to the starting pricing for this car. And then, see results coming your way in the long term. Good luck.
