On the 27th of May, Tata Motor Indonesia (TMI) registered three new models with Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry. The products are the Vista GZX (top-end petrol variant), Indica LGI 1.4L MT (petrol Indica variant) and Safari Storme EX 2.2L MT (2WD mid-variant).

A TMI spokeswoman told Kompas Otomotif that the goal of registering cars with the government is to test their feasibility.

Tata Motors launched in Indonesia last year at the Indonesian International Motor Show (IIMS 2012) and is presently getting its rudimentary dealership network in place. A range of products, from the tiny Nano to commercial vehicles were displayed at the show. However the company hasn’t started marketing them yet.

Kompas Otomotif is confident that the petrol Vista would be the first Tata car to launch at IIMS 2013 this September. It is described as a product larger than the Honda Jazz and Toyota Yaris with a 90PS 1.4-liter petrol engine. Despite rivaling bigger cars in the Indonesian market on paper, its competitors would be the Honda Brio, Kia Picanto, Nissan Micra and the Suzuki Ritz that make up the lower B segment.

The 2WD Storme would compete with the Renault Duster, another India-made SUV expected later this year in Indonesia.

Tata Motors exports the Indica Vista to neighboring countries as well as across seas to Europe. The Vista D90 was launched in February where officials revealed more variants were planned. A visually rugged concept christened ‘Vista Xtreme’ was also showcased at the D90’s launch suggesting that it wouldn’t be engine specs alone that would differ on future lifecycle activities.
