As the Ford EcoSport's international media drive is underway in Goa, news has emerged that the compact crossover SUV would be making its debut down under this December.

The EcoSport for most of the export markets will be sourced from the Chennai plant. The Australia bound car is no exception.

Caradvice.com.au reports that the engines earmarked for Australia are the 123 bhp 1.0 litre EcoBoost turbo petrol and the 110bhp 1.5 litre petrol engine. While the EcoBoost engine packs in technology, the lack of an automatic transmission would limit its prospects in Australian market which has a steep inclination towards the gearboxes that shift themselves.

The 1.5 litre engine will be available with both 5-speed manual and 6-speed dual clutch PowerShift automatic gearboxes. The 90 bhp 1.5 litre diesel engine has been left out for the Australian market since Ford Australia believes that the EcoBoost will satisfy the efficiency seeking customers.

The Australia spec car will be carrying the full equipment list including features like the multiple airbags and Ford's SYNC technology.

The compact crossover segment has been on the rise in Australia like elsewhere in the world. The Ford EcoSport will be targeting the urban dwellers and young, small families.

Back home, the bookings and the deliveries of the Ford EcoSport begin next month. The long wait is finally coming to an end!
