Expected to be unveiled in March 2014, the new Mercedes C Class would have an sportier stance. Like its latest creations, Mercedes wants to target the younger audience with its new C Class.

Automobilemag.com reports that the 2015 C Class would be having a long wheelbase variant codenamed V205. The longer sedan will be catering to markets like China where the customers prefer to be chauffeured. The LWB C Class would also hold significance in the Indian market, but will Merc green light a RHD version?

The report also says that the new Merc will be lighter by about 100 kg, thanks to the new MRA platform (Modular Rear wheel drive Architecture). Use of aluminium for the front fenders, bonnet and boot lid helps in keeping the weight under check.

The dimensions are better than the current car resulting in a significantly roomier cabin. Expect the LWB version to be a baby S Class!

Under the hood will be an array of frugal petrol and diesel engines. The probable engine lineup includes a 2.2 litre diesel, a 1.6 litre turbo petrol, a 2.0 litre turbo petrol and a 3.0 litre V6 twin turbo petrol motor. The AMG version could be adopting a 4.0 litre twin turbo V8 petrol motor.

By the time the 2015 C Class comes into picture, almost the complete Mercedes portfolio will be new and this would help the auto marque fight back for its leadership, which it aims to reclaim by 2020.
