If you have a potent and affordable hatchback like the VW Up!, the idea of making a sub four metre sedan is almost irresistible.

VW India is not talking about the Up! or its possible derivatives, but we know that the Up! is not just a product but a platform. The Taigun mini SUV concept is based out of it and is most likely heading for production line. So why not a sub four metre sedan in the lines of the Maruti Swift Dzire and the Honda Amaze?

Here is a speculative rendering of the car created by popular rendering artist Theophilus Chin. It uses the same formula as the fellow compact sedans. The front of the design would be a ditto of the hatchback sibling and the same can be said about the interior as well.

Just like the Honda Brio, the Up! hatchback at a length of 3.5m allows enough room for the designers to attach a decent looking boot. VW needn't have to invent compact diesel and petrol engines either. The end result would be a VW sedan that interests every Indian!

Given that VW's Chakan plant has the ability to roll out some serious number of cars, the Up! sedan is just a matter of localization. However the biggest question is that, is VW India thinking the same way as we do?

What do you think about the prospects of a VW Up! sedan?
