According to Mr. Adil Darukhanawala, editor of Zigwheels.com, the launch of the A Class is scheduled on May 30th. That makes it the launch number two for Mercedes in May, as the company is gearing up to launch the new GL Class on May 16th.

Indiancarsbikes.in reports that Mercedes is expected to conduct a private preview of the A Class for dealers and select customers on May 4th. The advancement of the A Class launch seems to be a sensible move as Mercedes would be looking to sustain its newly acquired No. 2 position in Indian luxury car market.

Adding gravity to these claims, Mercedes-Benz India has started posting images of the A Class through its Facebook page and Twitter handle. The featured image has been posted on the company's FB page with the caption - "Are you the pulse of A party?"

The A Class hatchback will slot in below the B Class as the most affordable Mercedes. The car is expected to be imported as CBU and will eventually be assembled at the firm's Chakan facility near Pune.

The India spec car is likely to be powered by a 1.6 litre petrol engine and a 1.8 litre diesel engine. A 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission is expected to be standard in both the models.

The Mercedes A Class will have competition in the form of the BMW 1 Series which will arrive in the third quarter of this year.
