After the launch of its eco-friendly e2o last month, Mahindra is struggling to set the sales figures in the way it wanted.

On the sidelines of the electric car's Chandigarh launch, a senior Mahindra official has divulged the plans of exporting the hybrid city car to Europe. This is a part of the derisking strategy that the company would follow after the car's slow start in India.

“We have plans to export Mahindra Reva in Europe from 2014,” said R Chandramouli, Chief of operations, Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles. He also revealed that e2o is being homologated to stick with European standards. “We are working on the regulatory framework of the European Union for starting export,” he added.

While exposing the desire to target big cities for selling its all-electric e2o, the sizable reputation that its predecessor, the G-Wiz enjoys in the UK market would help the export in terms of marketing.

The company has reportedly requested the Chandigarh authorities for a subsidy of about 30 per cent on the total cost of the car which otherwise comes to about Rs 9.18 lakh in the city (ex-showroom).

Life could have been lot more easier for the Mahindra e2o, if the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020 (NEMMP), proposed by the Indian government was implemented in this year's budget.
