The made-in-India 'Nouvelle Polo Sedan' was supposed to make its Algerian premiere at the recently concluded Salon Automobile Algers but SOVAC, the official distributor of Volkswagen models in Algeria, reserved it for a later date.

However, the VW Polo Sedan is now on display at the brand's showroom in Algiers, the capital city of Algeria. Autoalgerie.com reports that the model on display has different specifications from the one that is destined for the Algerian market.

In contrast to earlier expectations, the Algeria bound Polo Sedan will not be powered by the 1.6 litre petrol engine and the automatic transmission, strapped to the display model. Instead, a 1.4 litre 85 bhp petrol engine will take over the propulsive duty with the help of a 5-speed manual transmission.

The 1.4 litre engine is not offered in any of VW's Indian models. It is to be noted that VW India doesn't have an engine plant of its own and hence it has to rely on its overseas mother plants for the powertrains. That enables VW India to choose from a wide range of engines depending on the export markets.

Expected to be launched soon, the VW Polo Sedan is priced at 13,49,000 Algerian Dinar (around Rs. 9.3 lakhs).
