Honda rides past Bajaj to become the No.2 two-wheeler maker in India

Honda dream yuga commuterThe two wheeler wing of Honda, after parting ways with the Hero group, is working really hard to become the numero uno two wheeler maker in India, and thereby in the world.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has started showing signs of improvement. The Japanese auto giant has surpassed Bajaj Auto to become the second largest two wheeler maker in India in terms of volume, during the recently concluded financial year.

As per the statistics released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), HMSI has sold 26,06,841 two wheelers (motorcycles and scooter's combined) in the domestic market during 2012-13 fiscal. The 54.7% jump in the sales of motorcycles has given Honda the edge.

Meanwhile, Bajaj Auto which does not have a scooter in its current portfolio managed to ship 24,63,863 units. Hero Motocorp continue to be the king of two wheeler industry with sales of 59,12,538 in FY 2012-13.

During the bygone financial year, Honda launched the Dream Yuga 110cc commuter and the CB Trigger 150cc in the 'sporty' class. The company also relaunched its scooter range with an updated engine.

For the current financial year, Honda estimates to grow by 42.7% with sales of around 39.3 lakh units. The prediction sites a series of new product launches and increased production capacities as growth drivers.
