The four door coupe is a niche segment but adds lots of style and individuality to what is otherwise a regular hatchback or a sedan.

Mercedes invented the segment with the CLS Class and since Detroit 2013, they have the much more affordable CLA Class on board as well. Autoexpress.co.uk reports that Volkswagen is considering a compact four door coupe model based on the Golf Mk7 which could be called the Golf CC (Coupe Class).

The car will slot in alongside the Jetta as a more stylish alternative and would beckon those who think the CLA is beyond their reach. The main target markets are expected to be US and China.

Here is a speculative rendering of the car created by the popular rendering artist Theophilus Chin for Pautan.org. The car is easily recognizable as a VW but the front fascia bears a meaner look to compliment the swooping roof line.

The rear of the car gets sharp and angular wrap around tail lamps which look similar to that of the A4. To go with the aggressive styling, VW could tune the chassis in favor of driving experience.

If the VW Golf CC becomes a reality, the car will certainly use the MQB platform and set of VW TSI's and TDI's. And what's more, there could be even a GTI version!

The Golf CC is reportedly under development now and is slated for a launch in 2015.
