The Ford EcoSport for the European markets has been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show yesterday and now we bring you the official confirmation that the European spec cars will indeed be exported from India.
The version of the mini SUV which is bound to Europe is not much different from the one that is destined for India, except for certain features like the multiple airbags and SYNC voice-activated in-car connectivity and SYNC Emergency Assistance.
On the sidelines of the ongoing Geneva Motor Show, Indian Autos Blog had an opportunity to interact with Mr. Glen D. Goold, Chief Engineer, B-Car Programs, Ford. We asked him about the source of the EcoSport for Europe and the answer came back promptly. Chennai it is!
He said, "We are utilizing that footprint and the economies of scale there (Chennai plant) to import the cars to Europe." He also added that the deliveries of EcoSport in Europe will start at the end of this year for few markets and the other countries will get the car early next year.
The engine options for Europe include 125 PS 1.0 litre EcoBoost turbo petrol, 1.5 litre 110 PS petrol motor and the 90 PS 1.5 litre diesel engine.
The Ford EcoSport will be the second global SUV to be offered in Europe after the Kuga. Ford is aiming to sell one million SUVs in Europe in the next six years.
