Spyshots of the Audi A3 sedan, a model anticipated to launch in India next year to become the cheapest and smallest Audi, have just come in from China.

Unlike pictures we've seen of the car testing on ice or on public roads, these images reveal the car's body shell from what seems like a factory shop floor giving a clear-cut image of the car's overall proportions.

Car News China reports that the four-door A3 will be manufactured and launched by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture in China. The A3 hatchback was presented at the Geneva Motor Show last year, while the sedan version, as a concept car, was brought to Geneva two years ago.

Audi India previewed the A3 sedan in India last year at the Auto Expo through the Audi A3 sedan e-tron concept. Audi India's Managing Director Michael Perschke recently ruled out the chances of smaller cars like the A3 or A1 hatchbacks in India which logically means that the A3 sedan would be the four rings' entry-level product for the foreseeable future.

The production version of the MQB-based A3 sedan makes its world premiere at the Shanghai Auto Show on the 20th of April. The A3 sedan's opposition is comprised of the Mercedes CLA Class and the forthcoming BMW 1 Series sedan, two very formidable models, both of which have been confirmed for India.

Production of the Audi A3 sedan is slated to begin in China by June, with the domestic market launch scheduled shortly thereafter. The engines are familiar to India - 1.8 TSI, 2.0 TSI and 2.0 TDI, coming from the existing line of VW group models.
