Bookings for the Mercedes CLA Class open in the UK

Mercedes CLA Class frontThe Mercedes CLA Class looks like the next success story in the making, primarily because it carries forward the same formula as the super hit A Class.

The stylish entry level sedan from Mercedes was unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January and now you could order one if you are in the UK. The Britons can avail the CLA with two engine options across two variants.

The 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine develops 120 bhp and 200 Nm of torque and accelerates to 100 kmph from rest in 9.3 seconds. The 2.1-litre diesel engine has has 167 bhp and 350 Nm in store and is capable of reaching triple digit speeds in 8.2 seconds.

The petrol engine’s fuel efficiency is 11.1 kmpl while emitting 130g of carbon dioxide every kilometer. The oil burner is more frugal and cleaner with its fuel economy of 13.83 kmpl and carbon dioxide emission of 117g/km.

The entry level variant, called ‘Sport’ offers equipment like dual zone climate control, 18″ alloy wheels, rain sensing wipers and the standard safety package.

The high end variant called the ‘AMG Sport’ adds AMG rims, exterior styling package, sports steering and seats and bi-xenon headlamps.

The Mercedes CLA range starts from €24,355 (around Rs. 17.09 lakhs) to €31,555 (around Rs. 22.15 lakhs) in the UK.

    Looks are awesome, but the engine sounds too under powered. Just a 120 hp engine is not powerful enough for such a sporty car from Mercedes. After seeing the images I was seeing this car as a little brother of CLS. Also the fuel efficiency is too less. My 118 hp Honda City gives 14.5 kmpl as an overall mileage. Probably CLA is heavier.
