Honda is sending out timely updates to interested customers via email on the Amaze that launches sometime in April. A Honda official told IndianAutosBlog.com that they have received over 8,000 inquiries on their preview website (http://amaze.hondacarindia.com) and official bookings are yet to open at dealerships.

However that hasn't stopped a number of family car buyers calling or arriving at dealerships. It is believed that some showrooms have in fact started taking bookings.

Honda's holding the media drive program this week (Indian Autos Blog has been invited) where we'll get to sample the production models manufactured in India for the first time properly.

Production of the Amaze, according to dealer sources and online media reports, began earlier this year. Over 10,000 units have already rolled off the Greater Noida manufacturing plant, with significant capacity contribution coming from the discontinued Jazz. Honda will launch both petrol and diesel variants simultaneously, the top-spec VX trim is loaded with all safety and convenience features familiar from the Brio.

The two biggest body changes in the Indian car compared to the Thai market's car are the inclusion of foglights and the deletion of the "Brio" master brand. Mechanically the 1.5-liter i-DTEC diesel mill is the standout feature. Compared to the Brio, there's a minor increase in wheelbase and the rear bench offers better thigh support.

Honda will use the Brio platform another time to launch a new compact MPV, besides the existing Freed, to compete against the Toyota Avanza, Maruti Ertiga and the Chevrolet Spin in Asian markets. This future model's fate in India is still uncertain, but we'll ask this question to Honda India's management when we meet them later in the week.
