The Chevrolet Cruze is a true Cinderella story.

It started life as a Daewoo Lacetti (Chevrolet Optra for our Indian audience) and was not really a looker. It was a powerful car with a beautiful back seat ride but that’s about it.

Come 2008, the big, brash Cruze was showcased at the 2008 Paris Motor Show replacing the Lacetti worldwide. The humble house sweeper was now suddenly a princess. The Cruze was what the young generation aspired to drive.

A lot of the Chevrolet Cruze’s success is attributed to its exterior and interior design. As of 2013, the Cruze is a five year old car. With a midlife facelift coming in just last year, it is about time GM began work on an all-new Cruze. And they have!

First spyshots of an all-new Cruze testing in the snow surfaced last month so rendering artists all over the world are busy making interpretations of it.

Here we have Carplace bringing their interpretation influenced by the design language of the Chevrolet Sonic Twins. The artist behind the rendering, Mauricio Alves, decided that the Cruze needs to shift from its masculine design language and move to a more feminine one.

The all-new Cruze will be developed on an extremely modular D2XX platform which will replace the Delta II and Theta platforms and support no less than 12 nameplates and 2.5 million cars for under the Chevrolet, Holden, Opel, Vauxhall, Buick, GMC and Cadillac brands by 2018.

The all-new Cruze, codenamed as Project Phoenix, will be longer thus providing better interior and boot space. Multiple body styles such as four door sedan, two door coupe, a station wagon and a hatchback are planned.

A whole new family of engines called Small Gasoline Engine (SGE) developed by GM’s European arm Opel in collaboration with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) in the range of 1.0-1.5-litres capacity with turbocharging technology will motor the car. The diesel engines will also be updated with improved fuel economy.

The all new Cruze will be taking center stage in 2015.
