The next gen Hyundai i10 is touted to be the next big small car in India precisely because it will come with a diesel engine.

Going by the sales of Hyundai i20 diesel, a cheaper and modern diesel hatchback could become an instant hit. Apart from the oil burner, the new i10 has grown in size making it eligible to move a bit upmarket thereby taking the fight towards premium hatchbacks.

Hyundai has started testing the car rigorously and that's the reason why the spotting of the test mules have increased in the recent times. Here are a set of spyshots from our friends at Motor Vikatan magazine whose reader Mr. K. Karthikeyan caught the test mule in Chennai.

The headlamps reveal that the car is the next iteration of the firm's super successful Fluidic Sculpture design philosophy.

The diesel engine in discussion is the 1.1 litre three cylinder unit which is available in the UK spec Hyundai i20. The engine produces 74 bhp and has a hugely impressive CO2 emission of 85 g/km. The Hyundai i20 Blue variant fitted with this engine has a fuel economy of 37 kmpl as per the UK driving style!

The current generation Hyundai i10 is being built only in Hyundai's Chennai facility for the entire world, however the next gen car would have another home in Turkey. The Turkish facility which would cater to the European demand is being readied to adopt the new car.

The next gen Hyundai i10 is expected to break cover at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September shortly after which the sales would commence. India would be one of the first markets to get the car.
