When the latest iteration of the 'World's best SUV' was launched a while back, it was only a question of when as to the Range Rover Sport would be launched.

The Sport is for someone who loves the Range Rover for what it is, but is not so keen on its off-road prowess. They would be more interested in the luxury-performance blend the SUV has to offer.

And the car you're seeing here happens to be the 2014 Range Rover Sport while it is undergoing testing. Like the all new Range Rover, the Sport will be based on the aluminium space-frame chassis that helps in lowering the weight of the car by nearly 400 kg. The reduced weight also increases the efficiency of the car.

While the Range Rover Sport will look very similar to its bigger brother, it is reported that the rear overhang would be much shorter.

Power for the Range Rover Sport will come from a variety of engines staring with a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel producing 255bhp. A more powerful twin-turbo V8 turbodiesel with 355bhp would also be included in that lineup.

Keeping inline with the 'Sport' moniker would be a supercharged petrol V8 producing in excess of 500bhp. Land Rover may want to tune the engine to rival the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S.

The Sport is also expected with a diesel-electric hybrid V6 which would promise a carbon emission lower than 170 g/km of CO2.

Inside, the Sport would be differentiated from the Range Rover in terms of the central console and the dashboard which could be altered in a mild fashion.

Expect to see Land Rover unveil the Range Rover Sport sometime later this year, possibly at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
