The Hyundai HB20 is nothing but a stylized, low cost version of the i20, exclusive to the Brazilian market.

The hatchback is a runaway success but Hyundai Brazil has cut short the party time. The Chevrolet Onix, the HB20's arch rival is getting a sedan brother named the Prisma, so it its only apt for HB20 to have a sedan version to 'extend' the rivalry, quite literally.

Our friends at Noticiasautomotivas.com.br have managed to capture the first camouflaged test mules of the HB20 sedan. As with the usual instant sedan recipes, the first half of the sedan is same as the hatchback but the changes are quite drastic past the B-pillar.

After the B-pillar, the roofline takes a sharp and deep plunge to form a thick C-pillar before terminating at the boot. The rear of the car appears like it took a leaf of two from the book of Fluidic Sculpture design.

The tail lamps start from the boot lid and wrap around the rear fenders. The rear bumper is huge and adds visual bulk to the sedan.

Expected to be called as the Hyundai HB20S, it will be powered by 1.0-litre and 1.6-litre flex fuel engines. The sedan has its sights clearly on cars like Fiat Siena and the soon to be launched Chevrolet Prisma.

The Hyundai HB20 sedan is expected to be launched in March, just shortly after its main rival Prisma hits the market.

We don't expect Hyundai to bring the HB20 to India. If in case there's a plan to launch a new sedan smaller than the Verna, it will be based on the next generation i10 platform, not reserved to just one country.
