Here is your daily dosage of Ford EcoSport news. The much awaited compact crossover SUV is tantalizing Indian customers upgrading into the B+/C segment and now it has started going about its business in Thailand as well!
A mildly camouflaged Kinetic Blue Ford EcoSport in LHD configuration was spotted by Mr. Worapol Limsiriwong of Digitalnext.wordpress.com at a fuel station in Thailand.
The test mule's presence there hints that the EcoSport could go on sale in Thailand sometime during the end of this year or in early 2014.
Ford announced plans last year to manufacture the EcoSport in Thailand which would be the fourth country to make the crossover SUV beside Brazil, China and India. A major chunk of export burden will be shared by India and Thailand while plants in Brazil and China will look after their respective local demand, using technologically and dimensionally localized products.
Powertrains for Thailand is a foggy area right now, but we expect the award-winning 1.0L EcoBoost turbo petrol engine to be the motor of choice.
The Thai market is fond of big SUVs, most of which are based on heavy duty pickup trucks. Can the hatchback-based Ford EcoSport convince the people of Thailand with its impressive road presence, useful technologies and compact dimensions?
