The first spyshots of the next generation Cruze launching next year as a 2015 MY appeared on the internet this week.

The first generation Cruze, brought in to replace the Optra/Lacetti in some parts of the world, and spearheaded GM’s downsizing campaign in the U.S. debuted at the Paris Motor Show of 2008.

In 2011, GM refreshed the Cruze giving it cosmetic changes concentrated around its front fascia. Besides the four door style, GM launched station wagon and hatchback models on the same platform.

Photographs snapped during the cold weather testing of the 2015 Chevrolet Cruze reveal a more aerodynamic design, a shortened decklid, Sonic-like rear taillights and a twin port Chevy grille up front. We have no idea on what the interiors are like or whether there are any groundbreaking technologies on board.

Moving to the next generation, the Cruze will employ all-new powertrains that roll out under the ‘EcoTec’ engine family. The Cruze would also be the first model to use the D2XX platform that GM designed to underpin 2.5 million future cars and crossovers by 2018.

GM India has reworked the Cruze twice in its innings which began in October 2009. The Cruze is the best selling diesel car in its segment, and globally, it has been a game changer for the bowtie, clocking sales of  well over 1 million units.

Before the new Cruze takes over, will GM India plan another facelift operation, giving the current model a bit more energy to hold out until the successor is ready for consumption?
