Toyota Vios is the sedan version of the Yaris sold in countries like Thailand, Philippines, Middle East and Australia.
The Vios has been in the market since 2002 and Toyota has started working on a replacement for the second generation Vios that was introduced in 2007.
The uncovered example was spotted in Thailand recently, on its way to film its commercials. These photographs are circulating on Facebook.
The Toyota Yaris hatchback was relaunched two years ago but unlike the last generation Vios which looks like a Yaris with a boot, the new sedan sports major changes. The front fascia is tightly skinned and gets sharp wrap around headlamps. The smiley grill has a chrome slat on top and looks like a more stylish version of the Toyota Etios.
The lower air dam adopts a trapezoidal layout which is Ford Fiestaish. The side profile features a simple and clean design and the rear too is reasonably well executed. The narrow boot lid has a prominent chrome strip and the large tail lights extend towards the rear fenders.
The interior of the car is expected to be carried over from the new Yaris and a 1.5 litre 109PS petrol engine is expected to continue with minor improvements. Transmission options could be the same 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic as the older car.
The design of the 2014 Toyota Vios has been improved significantly. Selling this already popular product in Thailand where it is built and exported to other international markets should be child's play.
The 2014 Vios is expected to grace dealer showrooms in the following months but we don't think this one is India bound. It is to be noted that Toyota Kirloskar Motors, during the launch of Toyota Etios Liva hatchback in 2011 told Indian Autos Blog that the Yaris (and naturally its derivations) are not meant for India.
