VW increases Polo and Vento prices

Posted on: Jan 28, 2013 - 7:02pm IST

January is a nightmarish period for a new car buyer. Why? Almost every manufacturer either increase their prices or propose to increase the prices and hence the poor buyer must act fast to save his cash.

VW Polo and VW Vento

With almost every brand announcing a marginal to significant price hike across their range, VW India follows suit as well. A price hike of up to 2.27% on the Polo and the Vento comes into effect immediately.

However VW India says that a few added features have been incorporated to justify the price increase. The earlier RCD 310 music system (on the Highline variants) has now been updated to the RCD 320 system. What this means is the addition of an AUX-in port and a SD Card reader to the otherwise USB and Bluetooth functionality the previous system offered.

While the Climatronic auto AC was available on the Vento, the Polo lacked this feature even after its refresh. Not anymore as it finds its way into the Polo as well.

However, when you look closely at the top end variant of the Vento, it seems the price increase has little to do with the added kit. The Climatronic AC has always been standard on the Highline Vento. So it seems you’re paying the extra moolah only for the improved music system with AUX-in and the SD Card reader.

Now, 2.27% on the ex-Showroom, Delhi price of the Vento Highline Diesel (which you’re likely to purchase) translates approximately to Rs. 22,500.

In the top-end Polo however, the price increase bears fruit in the form of the Climatronic AC – a feature the Polo was expected with in the first place.

Mr Arvind Saxena, Managing Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars said: “Our aim has always been to give our customers a good value proposition and once again we are glad to be able to offer a good reason for them to buy these carlines.”

In India, it’s the Polo and the Vento that have managed to keep the German afloat. In 2012, VW India delivered over 62,500 units of the duo.

January time is to make up for the “losses” suffered during the previous year’s December sales offers. I suspect the sales figures of all these companies would be at their lowest in the month of January. VW has at least made some additions, however little they are. Few others simply cite increased input costs.

      Hi Rasni,
The maximum price hike is 2.27%. Which means that the top end Highline Vento diesel would cost you about INR 20,000- 25,000 more.
