Proving us right, the Tata Indica XL, spotted on so many occasions, is a bootless Indigo XL.
This image was tweeted out by Overdrive magazine, a test mule sporting the same body color was spotted several times in the last year around the Pune area.
The seating layout of the Indica XL is still a mystery, there were suggestions that it could have three rows and there’s a market for such a vehicle (Datsun is believed to be stretching the wheelbase of the K2 to make a similar spin-off for 2015). As the Indica’s cabin cannot be accessed via the boot door, we could see seats facing each other placed at the back.
Under the hood, the Indica XL will feature a 1,396 cc CRDI engine that outputs 70 PS @ 4,000 RPM and 140 NM at 1,800-3,000 RPM. This engine is mapped to return 25kmpl in the ARAI driving cycle. The Indica XL may not have any specialties to its powertrain except for this feature, the same 5-speed manual transmission is certain to continue.
Recent spyshots are testimony to an unchanged interior upholstery in addition to a few inserts on the dashboard. A stretched wheelbase hatchback with three rows of seats would be a first for any auto manufacturer.
What’s next? An Indica ute?

A stillborn child
I think this model is a 7-8 seater purely targeted at the Taxi segment. Unless it is to carry more passengers, they would not have extended the wheelbase of the car.
is it a real? if so then it is good.
Yuck! another sibling from with lousy Indica face!!
What’s wrong with its front bumper?))
Hi Dmitry, this is a test prototype, the production version would look complete.
