On unveiling of the Captur, Renault want to establish three key points.
They say that the Captur will have the styling and driving positioning of an SUV, the interior space of an MPV and the driving dynamics of a saloon.
While those details can only be confirmed after seeing the car in flesh or sampling it on the roads, we can comment on the looks for now. And we’ve a few nice things to say about that.
The Captur does not look ugly, rather ‘pleasant’ can be a very good word to describe it. The overall stance of the car suggests a soft-roader and we can’t help but think that the Captur would look right up there with the Ford EcoSport on exterior looks.
Renault go further to say that the Captur will be available with a two-tone color scheme with the roof and body taking different color tones. The Captur measures a tad over 4m in length, but that shouldn’t set you thinking as there is no plan for Renault to launch this model in India for now.
The interiors of the Captur look very funky and follow Renault’s new design theme. It features a big steering wheel with a central infotainment system with faux wood finishes. The infotainment system in question is the in-dash Renault R-Link touchscreen multimedia tablet, plus a system that comprises of six loudspeakers, Bluetooth® connectivity, audio-streaming and Arkamys® hi-fi sound.
The standard Renault Captur will have equipment including hands-free entry, hill start assist and rear parking sensors.
The new Captur is based on the same platform as new Clio and will be available in petrol and diesel variants. At the time of going to press, Renault haven’t confirmed the exact engine lineup but one can assume that the 0.9L turbo petrol and the 1.5L K9K diesel are featuring on the roster.
The Renault Captur will be manufactured at Renault’s Valladolid plant in Spain and will be unveiled at the forthcoming Geneva Motor Show in March.
Whether or not Renault will consider the Captur for India is an all together different question, the short answer being No, at least for now.
Renault’s higher officials have stated that the expensive Clio is for the European market and we’re sure the same reason holds good for its variants as well. We think Renault would stick on to the Duster as its primary SUV offering.
