2013 Kia PicantoMirror, mirror on the wall, who is the most reliable of em’ all? The VW or the Mercedes or the BMW? If you answered saying ‘none of them’ you’re indeed correct.

A couple of days ago, our Bumper To Bumper post focused on the ‘reliability of German cars’. We said that a lot of the German cars were not as reliable as what meets the eye.

Today, we’ve some interesting news on the Koreans to share.

In a recent finding conducted by Money Supermarket in association with Warranty Direct, it was found that the most reliable car on Britain’s road was the humble Kia Picanto (Kia Morning in some markets). The small Picanto took top honors, battling with rival cars such as the Maruti Ritz (Vauxhall Agila for the UK) and the Maruti A-Star (Suzuki Alto for the UK). Both the Japanese came in second and third place respectively.

If you didn’t know, Hyundai is conducting trials of the Picanto LHD model around its plant in Chennai and despite not being on the Indian market, its quirky styling is a hit with online auto enthusiasts.

Surprisingly, the least reliable cars were found to be a pair of Suzuki’s as well – The Jimny and the Wagon R.

The survey has been gathered from about 50,000 Warranty Direct policies. The Overall reliability was seen as a combination of frequency of mechanical issues and the average cost of repairing them. With this a ‘RI’ Index was made (Reliability Index). The average score was Β 100 and the lower the score, the better the reliability of the car.

The Picanto managed an amazing score of 3/100 with the Ritz and the A-Star scoring 5 and 6 respectively. Other cars in the RI Index, which are sold in India were the Ford Fiesta scoring 13/100, the Toyota Corolla with 14/100 and the Honda Jazz with 18/100.

Overall, Kia as a manufacturer came in fifth place with the Japanese trio of Honda, Suzuki andΒ Toyota taking the podium.

And you thought your VW Jetta/Mercedes C Class/BMW 3 Series would make it at the top?

Guys stop posting this unrelated surveys!

In a realistic world – “expensive cars have expensive maintenance” so that’s natural! As all these surveys are related to cost of maintenance! (Be it preventive or Breakdown) πŸ™‚

People of the world are not fool ! So it’s better not to draw any baseless conclusion …….

I drove Golf for 3 years (it was already 3yrs 5 months old when I bought – at a price of any small Suzuki or Honda) in Sweden & Denamrk and had no issues at all ! What should I say? Unreliable golf? πŸ™‚

Now I am driving Skoda Fabia Tdi (done 146000 Km and close to 4 years) have no problem what so ever except routine once a year servicing plus tyre change! Should I say unreliable?

Ok, agree that Toyota has worlds best Quality first programme BUT then? Does it mean GM has none and their quality is worst? Well they are heading with Toyota πŸ™‚

I would appreciate if you post such survey with a thorough analysis of what has been taken in to account to award reliability and what not!

German cars are well engineered cars – may not be reliable as per the author of this forum and the surveyors of the source content!

    Cheers…….

Come on , grow up dude. Dont take it personally that if your German cars are faring well doesnt mean what written here is crap.
What published here is with proof and valid documents which are collected from 50000 random unhappy costumers which are paying too much and too frequently for the so called Well Engineered machines.

You maybe right with respect to personal experience. But surveys all over the world with all considerations have rated German cars( exception being Mercedes-Benz) as the most unreliable cars.

Google it yourself if you dont believe me

Nikhil thanks for the comment BUT what is the guarantee that these surveys are well done? Above all what I said in my comment is that make an analysis just don’t draw conclusions of any survey ! I do t say 50000 people are wrong I just say that just analyse their problems !

If you google on Internet about relaubility and smooth service of Banking in india you will be shocked to see the out come πŸ™‚ just an example! But then, those banks are still the healthiest and no1 πŸ˜€

        Cheers……
