After revealing the first set of spyshots of the soon to come Verito Compact (we’ll call it the Verito CS until Mahindra confirms the suffixed name), we’ve yet another set of images of the new Mahindra ‘is it a sedan or is it a hatch?’ caught on test thanks to member Crazy Driver of Team BHP.
This time, we get a good look at the rear of the car and we can’t help but wonder a few things. The tail-lights of the Verito CS seems to be on either side of the rear windscreen and the layout suggests that of a ‘Christmas-tree’, a design feature we’ve been seeing on our Tata Indica.
Next, try focusing your attention on the rear alone and it looks very much like the previous generation Ford Focus. In fact, we can go as far to say that the rear fascia (not rear three-quarters) of the car alone looks rather sporty.
We don’t know if we could say the same once the entire car is revealed as the sporty rear of the Verito CS could look out of place with the ‘plain-jane’ conservatively styled body of the Verito.
After seeing this picture, we don’t know if Mahindra would launch the Verito CS as a hatch or a sedan. Our best guess is that Mahindra will do a notchback. As far as the Indian market goes, the only sub 10 lakh notchback we’ve had were the Peugeot 309 and the Hyundai Accent Viva. A notchback Verito could make sense as it would have the best compromise - sub 4m and yet a decent sized boot.
In our personal opinion, we feel that if Mahindra adds a rear wiper/washer to this Verito CS, it could look a bit better as well. However, all our questions will be answered very soon with the launch of the Verito CS just around the corner.
And until now, the 1.5 Renault K9K seems to be the only offering for the Verito CS.
