The Mahindra Verito CS (tentative name, christened by auto aficionados on the internet) is the next new model cooking at camp Mahindra.

The test mule of the car has been spotted in Chennai by our very good friend and reader Mr. Gokulraj GK of MyCopie. The unsuspecting mule fell prey to his co-passenger's camera while testing on GST road within the confines of the city.

The sub-4 metre segment is very lucrative and it is only natural for Mahindra to condense the length of the Verito to fit within the critical length. The news of compact Verito is not new as Mahindra officials have confirmed it long back.

However, only after seeing the test mule did we recall that Mahindra never said it's working on a sub 4 metre Verito sedan!

Yes the Mahindra Verito compact is almost a regular hatchback. We use the word 'almost' because, there is a subtlest of a hint of the third box in the body, post the rear wind screen, which is there to offer a little more boot space than a normal hatchback.

The front grill gets XUV500 like slats, the tail lamps are relocated on either side of the steeply sloping rear windshield and the license plate is located in the boot lid. The rear window is accompanied by a small plastic cladding which creates a visual illusion makes the blending of rear window and the C pillar less awkward.

The profile of the car stands between a hatchback and a notchback. We expect that the boot lid would open along with rear windshield to offer a really wide access to the luggage bay.

While the overall looks of the car looks is pretty okay, we would like to reserve our opinion until we see an un-camouflaged mule.

The truncated Verito will carry the Renault 1.5 litre K9K diesel engine like its elder sibling which produces 65 bhp. The compact Verito is most likely to be a diesel only model since Mahindra does not have a 1.2 litre petrol engine to go with the sub 4 metre norm.

Dr. Pawan Goenka confirmed to Indian Autos Blog last week that the Verito master brand is staying on the sub-4m product.

The Mahindra Verito compact will be in the showrooms by end of March.
